Mediterranean Pearl (Taormina)

Taormina is locally known as the Mediterranean Pearl and is situated on a natural sheer terrace above the sea not far from Catania and Mount Etna. In the 1800s, after the great German writer Goethe praised Taormina for its beauty, the town became famous throughout Europe. Indeed, it became an essential stop on the Grand Tour – the long journey made through continental Europe by the young European aristocracy of the time to enrich their own culture. Today, it has not lost any of its charm and continues to attract tourists from across the globe with its rich history and mild climate.

There is much to enjoy in Taormina on your personalized Sicily vacation. One of the most popular attractions is the Greek theater, which sits above the town and is surrounded by blooming wildlife. The expansive and wonderful view across the sea towards Calabria’s coast, Syracuse and Mount Etna that you can admire from the ancient theater stalls acts as the backdrop to this ancient site – it is simply unforgettable!

Many visitors also enjoy walking in the Villa Comunale, where you can wander through classic Mediterranean vegetation while taking in sublime sea views. And then there are the charming sandy beaches lapped by crystal-clear water! The ones of Giardini Naxos and Mazzarò are the most frequented. But we simply love the beach of Isola Bella in front of Capo Sant’ Andrea, which is a protected natural oasis.
